Sip and Wrap Brunch

3rd and final class in the series. I’m sooooo excited for this class! Mostly because of the bottomless mimosas and the vegan brunch option. 😍 But also because of the chance to teach y’all how to wire wrap while you’re tipsy enough to let your creativity flow. ✨

Malcolm X Jazz Festival

The Malcolm X Jazz Arts Festival is an all day, free neighborhood festival that celebrates jazz, America's classical music and the Black musical tradition that has transcended the U.S. to reach all corners of the globe, and the legacy of Malcolm X, who believed in the self-determination, self-respect and self-defense of Black and oppressed people throughout the world. This event is a celebration of our Third World communities in the San Antonio district and includes music, speakers, community organizations, local arts & crafts vendors, live mural painting and delicious food.

The 19th Malcolm X Jazz Arts Festival is soon – May 19th, the actual date of Malcolm’s birthday 🎉🎈

We invite you to support our programs, including the Malcolm X Jazz Arts Festival, aimed at strengthening a social justice agenda that advances the vision and voice of the communities we serve. As Malcolm said, “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Black Coffee Sunday

Be Strong. Stay Woke.

Spring is (supposedly) here, we're still Black AF, and Mecury is finally going direct. What other reasons do you need to party with us this month in a celebration designed specifically to highlight and cultivate Black joy?!

Them People Productions is excited to host yet another in our roster of events and cultural programming aimed at helping our community cultivate healing and hope with our favorite caffeinated day party - Black Coffee Sunday! This live music event offers a safe space for fun, as well as an environment for reflection and networling. It's meant to be a momentary, but necessary, reprieve from the struggle. It's to refuel and recharge you. Help you meet like-minded Black folks. Mentally prepare you for a week where you might be one of the few, if not the only, who understands how hard it is to #staywoke. It's also a damn good excuse to GET LIT on a Sunday afternoon!

Our April Performers + Features:

Oakland, California native Aneesa Strings is a BAM bassist, lyricist, composer, and singer who is emerging to set a new standard for what it means to be an independent artist. As the youngest of seven siblings, she was exposed to a variety of music at an early age. Icons like Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Bobby Blue Bland, and Miles Davis rooted her introduction to playing music in Jazz and Classical genres. At the age of 12, she began playing the upright bass and exercised her craft in numerous youth music programs, both regional and international. Now she is entering into her tenth year of practice and refining her artistry. Check out the video for her single "Letter of Recommendation" here.

One of our faves, DJ Mujie, is back to spin the best #BlackJoy soundtrack in the Bay Area on a line-up including the rocksoul stylings of Oakland's own PAULYNN as well as journalist Jeneé Darden's captivating poetry. We'll also have the Keep It Diasporic Photo Booth set up for you to strike your most Blacktastic pose with the posse. And of course the newly-renovated Red Bay Coffee Bar will be serving locally roasted brews direct from the Motherland; we highly recommend the Sweet Potato Latte. Yes, you read that right. Sweet. Potato. Latte. (Wipe your chin, boo.)

Grab your tickets at a discount now; only full-price entry will be available on the day of the event. Please be aware that all tickets are non-refundable but transferable.
